Gary Richard Herbert is Utah's 17th governor. He currently sits on the National Governors Association Health and Human Services standing committee, the Healthcare Reform Task Force and the Homeland Security Special Committee.
In his inaugural address, Herbert outlined his three priorities: economic development, public and higher education and energy development. Prior to taking the oath of office in 2009, Herbert served as lieutenant governor under Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. for nearly five years. In 1990, he was appointed to the Utah County Commission. Soon after, he was elected to the body of commissioners, which he served for 14 years. Herbert also served in the Utah National Guard for six years.
During his time as county commissioner, Herbert served as president of the Utah Association of Counties and the Utah Association of Realtors, and as a board member of the Provo Orem Chamber of Commerce and Utah Water Conservancy District.
Herbert has served on the Truth Initiative board of directors since 2010.
