What is the Impact Series?

The Truth Initiative Impact Series is a robust, recurring event that brings together key stakeholders and experts to engage in thought-provoking conversations about ways we can innovate and inspire action to achieve a culture where young people reject smoking, vaping and nicotine. The goal of this thought leadership series is to convene diverse partners in tobacco control and other public health organizations, parents, teachers, and policy makers, who can benefit from Truth Initiative’s work.

Standing alongside our partners, our 20 years of lifesaving work has helped drive down the youth smoking rate from 23% in 2000 to just 2.3% in 2021 by preventing millions of young people from becoming smokers, including 2.5 million between 2015 and 2018 alone. But as e-cigarettes threaten to addict a new generation to nicotine, we must now work together to once again to stand up to the tobacco industry that is relentlessly pursing not only young people, but making sure the 30.8 million adults who still smoke cigarettes, continue to be addicted to nicotine. Through the Truth Initiative Impact Series, partners come together to connect, spur conversation, identify key issues and ultimately stand up to Big Tobacco.

The events raise awareness about the breadth of work that we do, including the effectively targeted truth campaign, and share key research findings and innovations, positioning us as a prime resource to our tobacco control partners and other public health groups, as well as reach potentially larger audiences who can benefit from Truth Initiative’s work.

Moderated by renowned public health experts and leading journalists from the Washington Post, Time Magazine, USA Today and NBC News, the Truth Initiative Impact Series is convened several times a year as an in-person gathering and live webinar. The in-person assembly allows for networking opportunities and a real-time exchange of ideas, while the live webinar boasts a nationwide audience of thousands of forward-thinkers, public health leaders and policymakers.
