Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, and cigarette smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Tobacco causes more than just lung cancer: according to the U.S. Surgeon General, one-third of all cancer deaths are caused by smoking.
