Smoke-Free Places

Smoke-free laws hold life-saving promise and are proven tools for reducing youth and young adult tobacco use. While 21 states and the District of Columbia enacted comprehensive smoke-free laws between 2000 and 2009, no state has passed a law prohibiting smoking at work, restaurants or bars since North Dakota did in 2012. Policymakers play an important role in limiting access to and use of tobacco products by youth and young adults.
